UK National Screening Committee briefing on the meeting of 17 November 2011At the UK NSC meeting on Thursday 17 November, a number of recommendations were made, including recognition by the committee that evidence does not support the introduction of a population wide screening programme for Familial hypercholesterolaemia, postnatal depression, hepatitis C in pregnancy, pre-eclampsia, toxoplasmosis, fragile X or child hypertension. New online learning tool makes training on antenatal and newborn screening easyToday, the UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) launches its new online learning module for antenatal and newborn screening in England. The module covers the six NHS antenatal and newborn screening programmes, providing up to date information and dispelling common misconceptions. UK National Screening Committee evidence review update on screening for prostate cancerOn the 10 March 2010, the UK NSC reviewed the analysis of the recent studies on screening for prostate cancer and commissioned further refinement of the modelling to look at the costs, benefits and impact on the NHS of screening different age ranges for prostate cancer. The work will be presented to the next UK NSC meeting in June and will be followed by public consultation before the UK NSC makes a formal policy recommendation to Ministers in the autumn.
